Pastor Derek’s journey began in Western Uganda, where he started working with alcoholics. After marrying Victoria and relocating to Kalangala, he identified an even greater need for recovery support due to the widespread challenges in the island community. Recognizing this, VKids Trust Uganda embraced the 12-Step Program to offer structured and faith-based recovery solutions.
We conduct twice-weekly recovery meetings to provide consistent support and foster a sense of community among recovering individuals. Community mobilization efforts raise awareness about the dangers of alcoholism and the recovery programs available. Through our “Just Say No” campaign, we also engage in school outreach, educating and empowering young people to resist the pressures of alcohol and substance abuse, promoting healthier choices and lifestyles.
Our efforts not only guide individuals toward sobriety but also work to uplift the entire community by addressing the root causes and social impacts of addiction.
