MRS. VICTORIA NAMUGENYI BRATTON
Victoria Namugenyi has had extensive training and a substantial number of years in the educational system, she has now embarked on a new path in her career as the mayor of the enchanting island of Kalangala.
She is a native ofBubembe in the Kalangala islands, and has dedicated herself to making a difference in the lives of orphans and vulnerable children. With unwavering determination, she is actively involved in providing not just education, but also essential provisions such as food, clothing, and other necessities. By ensuring these children have a nurturing and fulfilling childhood.
She founded VkidsTrust Uganda in 2009, a non-governmental organization, which is dedicated to supporting orphans and vulnerable children by providing them with essential education, school supplies, clothing, mattresses for improved sleeping conditions, and nutritious food, among other vital resources. The program has experienced a recent surge in growth and is presently providing sponsorship to a greater number of children than ever before. However, our capabilities are limited, and we require assistance to secure a brighter future for these children.
Witnessing the dire circumstances these children endure, trapped in the clutches of extreme poverty and going without meals for days on end, it is impossible to remain unaffected. The sight of a helpless child living in such conditions compels us to take action. Our journey has only just begun, and we must continue to make a difference
MR. DEREK BRATTON
My name is Derek Bratton. I embraced Christianity later in life. I have not always been faithful to the Lord. During my youth, I battled addiction. It was only after losing a loved one to the same struggle that I found sobriety and devoted myself to Christ. By God’s grace, in 2011, I chose to utilize my skills in construction and plumbing for His work. I enrolled in my inaugural mission journey to Uganda, Africa.
Over the course of the next three years, I made multiple visits to Uganda, immersing myself in the country’s culture and people. My initial trip to Uganda led me to a small orphanage in Bukerere, just outside Kampala, where I discovered that God had bestowed upon me unique talents. It was there that I embarked on my first projects, and as I continued to serve the Lord, numerous construction endeavors followed suit. In 2015, I received a divine calling to dedicate myself fully to missionary work, prompting me to relocate to western Uganda. While assisting with various building initiatives, I soon realized that God had a greater purpose for summoning me to Uganda. It was during this time that I became involved in alcohol recovery programs, witnessing firsthand the transformative power of faith. As the months went by, the recovery group flourished, liberating countless individuals from the clutches of alcohol addiction. It was during this period that I also had the privilege of meeting my wife. She introduced me to the enchanting islands of Kalangala, an experience that opened my eyes to the dire needs of both children and alcoholics in the area. After much contemplation and prayer, I made the life-altering decision to relocate to Kalangala Island in 2016. Together, with the unwavering support of God, we are committed to bringing about positive change and transforming the lives of many on Kalangala Island.
